MOTHER’S FINEST – Mother’s Finest Live [Steamhammer Records CD reissue] , MP3+FLAC

Some of you fellow readers requested MOTHER’S FINEST cult classic album “Mother’s Finest Live”, a record capturing the band at its finest, energetic flare – a group which belonged to the stages. This album never was remastered, however the sonic output from this Steamhammer / SPV reissue is really good.

Riding a wave of success of the band’s studio albums ‘Another Mother Further’ and ‘Mother Factor’, “Mother’s Finest Live” went gold, recorded while the group’s heavy touring opening for the likes of Ted Nugent, Black Sabbath, The Who, Aerosmith and AC/DC.

Apart from the Mother’s Finest Live hits you’d expect like “Love Changes” and the indeed incendiary version of “Fire”, on “Mother’s Finest Live” there are some heavy funked-up 60s rock covers: “Somebody To Love” and Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride.”
Throughout, the band finds its balance between hard rock and funk, which is particularly welcome on the Factor numbers (“Watch My Stylin'”).

Since they stick to the high points of the catalog (“Baby Love”), and there’s some nice audience interplay (“Give You All The Love”), this is probably the place to start with the Mother’s Finest.

Yes, it’s not common to recommend a live album as starting point to anybody who doesn’t know a band, but “Mother’s Finest Live” should be an exception, ‘cos Mother’s Finest really, really rocks here, a disc that truly showcases the incredible intensity of this killer band.
Highly Recommended

In Europa war die Band bereits seit 1978 bekannter, da sie in der zweiten Rockpalast-Nacht in Essen aufgetreten war und Eindruck hinterlassen hatte Live At Rockpalast Mother's Finest - Live At Rockpalast. Die LP von 1979 hatte einen sehr guten Sound, während die erste CD-Veröffentlichung der 90er Jahre für mich etwas kraftlos klingt. Zudem ...
