Appearing as a “heavy” supplement to SOUNDS magazine, it soon turned into a monthly independent publication.
From the late 80s to the present it has been published weekly. It went through a series of changes of editors and owners, but the publication's policy changed radically only at the turn of the century, when the magazine, IMHO, completely collapsed.

History. Kerrang! was founded in 1981. The magazine commenced publication on 6 June 1981 and was edited by Geoff Barton, initially as a one-time supplement in the Sounds newspaper, which focused on the new wave of British heavy metal phenomenon and on the rise of other hard rock acts. [5]
