Tokyo Storm – Alien Radio Station 2024
After a very enjoyable debut album in 2020 featured here at plotn08, UK, Midlands based four-piece TOKYO STORM are releasing tomorrow their second album titled “Alien Radio Station“. If you are a true fan of classic AOR / Melodic Rock, you really need to check out Tokyo Storm.
But the songs on “Alien Radio Station” are not just typical 4-minute melodic breeze – TOKYO STORM go further in the development of the tracks. In some bands, this lead to unnecessary repetitive verses, however TOKYO STORM enrich their songwriting with atmospheres, interesting passages and arrangements – still planted in Melodic Rock.
For a self-manged product, “Alien Radio Station” sounds amazing, it’s a beautifully balanced opus and with the vast majority of songs on offer being over the five-minute mark, you certainly get your money’s worth.
It all centres around the beautiful guitar tones of guitarist Joe Bartnicki and the smooth and relaxing vocals of Ben Green (it’s nice to hear a singer stay within his limitations). They are ably supported by the tight rhythm section of bassist Jason Edwards and drummer Bob Peach.
Opener and title track brings uptempo pumping melodic rock with an insistent guitar riff, lovely keys and smooth vocals. ‘Untamed Night’ is pure ’80s AOR midtempo magic. ‘Pool Of Splendour’ rocks with style (love the bridge/chorus), and surprisingly the first ballad, “Turn Your Head Around, arrives in the 7# slot, a very well thought track and a highlight – not too slow, but midpaced and with big clean guitar.
In fact, that’s the only real ballad, as on “Alien Radio Station” TOKYO STORM rocks harder than on their debut album, always melodic and with fine arrangements.
This is Melodic Rock to more traditional laid-back AOR, all with an undoubted British feel. Each of the ten songs is crafted well and delivered impeccably. The standard of songwriting, musicianship, and production has resulted in a polished and professional-sounding collection of songs.
Criminally unsigned, the quartet demonstrates a great potential, and the listener must be hooked on the band’s mood immediately.
Highly Recommended
