Marriott died in a accidental house fire in his home on 20 April 1991. This was caused by his falling asleep while intoxicated and leaving a cigarette burning, after arriving home jet-lagged from an overseas trip.

Stephen Peter Marriott (30 January 1947 - 20 April 1991), known professionally as Steve Marriott, was an English musician, guitarist, singer and songwriter. He co-founded and played in the rock bands Small Faces and Humble Pie, in a career spanning over 20 years.
