MORPHEUS RISING – LET THE SLEEPER AWAKE (2011)
Formed back in 2008, and based in the North of England, Morpheus Rising has forged a reputation for lively stage shows and powerful melodic music. The band was built around material from guitarist Pete Harwood, written over the previous couple of years, and was soon gigging up and down the country both headlining and supporting the likes of GUN, The Reasoning and Gwyn Ashton.
A five piece, twin guitar band in the classic mould of Saxon, Judas Priest, Def Leppard et al, Morpheus Rising add a modern twist to British Heavy Rock with Prog, Goth, Thrash and the US metal/rock scene also being cited. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal dragged kicking and screaming into the new millennium. NWoBHM The Next Generation!?
Heavily influenced by bands such as Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden and Alter Bridge both musically and visually, Morpheus Rising produce an energetic show which will keep the old guard happy and show the new generation how it’s done. Central to the band’s sound is the twin guitar partnership of Pete Harwood and Daymo Sweeting, coupled with dynamic and melodic songwriting, from the balls out NWoBHM rock of Lord of the North to the lighter, more radio friendly Those Who Watch.
2011 saw the first line up change since the band’s very early beginnings with the departure of original singer Grae Tennick for a new life in Kenya. His shoes are more than filled by outstanding vocalist and front man Si Wright – whose arrival marks the beginning of a new era for this ambitious and hard working outfit. In at the deep end, Si’s second show was on the Classic Rock Stage at the 2011 Cambridge Rock Festival!
