BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN – WRECKING BALL (2012)
After months of rumors, Bruce Springsteen has finally announced the details of his 17th studio album. The disc is called Wrecking Ball and will hit shelves on March 6th. (Listen to a stream of the lead single "We Take Care Of Our Own" on Springsteen's official website.) "Bruce has dug down as deep as he can to come up with this vision of modern life," Springsteen's manager Jon Landau said in a statement. "The lyrics tell a story you can't hear anywhere else and the music is his most innovative of recent years. The writing is some of the best of his career and both veteran fans and those who are new to Bruce will find much to love on Wrecking Ball."
Two of the songs have been performed on previous tours. Springsteen debuted the title track at Giants Stadium in the fall of 2009 and played it regularly throughout the rest of the Working on a Dream tour. "Land of Hope and Dreams" was first performed on the the E Street Band's 1999 reunion tour. There are nine brand new songs on the album.
Wrecking Ball was produced by Ron Aniello – who has worked with Guster, Candlebox and Springsteen's wife Patti Scialfa – alongside Springsteen and executive producer Jon Landau. It features a wide variety of players, including guitarist Tom Morello, former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain and members of the E Street Band.
The album is a politically charged disc about the current state of America. Jon Landau tells Rolling Stone that the disc has "social overtones" and a "very pronounced spiritual dimension . . . It extends and deepens the vision that has animated all of Bruce's work."
A source told the Hollywood Reporter that the album has "unexpected textures – loops, electronic percussion . . . influences and rhythms from hip-hop to Irish folk rhythms."
According to multiple sources, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will kick off a world tour in March. A complete tracklisting from the album is below, as well as a video of Springsteen and the E Street Band playing the title track at Giants Stadium in October 2009.
