RAYGUN REBELS – BRING ME HOME 2011

“You can count on it that this album is going to revive the spirit of Glam and hard rock of the 1980’s”…at least that’s what’s written in the info that came with this first album by Germany’s Raygun Rebels. Hmmm…incentive enough for this scribbler to once again put on my “let’s take a closer look” suite and devote my undivided attention to the 8 tunes on offer.
The Rebels open up their debut with “Here We Are” and immediately make it known that their sound is indeed firmly rooted in the same soil that produced good time rock ’n roll music back in the 1980’s but instead of reviving the spirit of Glam their music is seasoned with a healthy dose of sleaze and blues. Very much along the lines of Junkyard and Cowboy Prostitutes with a twist of Aerosmith swagger.

No complicated song structures just straight ahead, easy to digest tunes blessed with a fine production and with some very tasty guitar work. And what’s more the whole affair swings from beginning to end with the obligatory ballad (“Goodbye”) thrown in to make sure all the pieces of 80’s rock ’n roll puzzle are in place.

01. Here We Are [03:36]
02. Lay Down Baby [04:29]
03. Financial Distress Blues [04:46]
04. Goodbye [05:59]
05. I Want You [04:38]
06. Let Me Go [04:14]
07. The Killer [05:13]
08. Bring Me Home [07:29]

That being said though the guys also tip their hat to 1970’s icons the New York Dolls on “Financial Distress Blues”.
Only 8 songs might seem like a little but 3 of them clock in over 5 minutes and the title track runs for a full 7 minutes and 30 seconds.
“Bring me Home” is not the kind of album that will take the rock ’n roll world by storm but will hopefully offer the combo the chance to imprint their name in the mind of sleaze rock fans worlwide and take the next step in their career.
