My first memory goes back in the 60's! A beautiful book illustrated in black and white about the mysterious King Arthur… For a child this character is the best! As all the boys at the same age, I dreamed to be this Child King that can brandish Excalibur. The girls are much more stupid! What an idea wanting to be a princess in love with two guys on the same time, ah la la it is really a girl thing! (Laughs)
MARTIN BARRE FROM JETHRO TULL: My middle name is Lancelot so as a school child I was very familiar with King Arthur legend and I knew a lot about his story, and I 've read it in the past but I haven't heard about it since. It's a very strong story, very present with its castle, its domain in north Devon supposedly.
MOYA BRENNAN FROM CLANNAD: I don’t know which came first – John Boorman’s Excalibur or Walt Disney’s Sword in the Stone. Boorman’s film was shot in Ireland and to this day you can still take the “Excalibur Drive” through the locations in the mountains above where I live.
JON ANDERSON FROM YES: As most people in Europe, we grew up around the King Arthur legends. And the mystic side of life is still there. It's a very, very wonderful idea to realise such musical performance inspired by this legend. The sword Excalibur is a powered symbol connected to the earth, to the stars and to everything that surrounds us.
JIMME O’NEILL FROM THE SILENCERS: I read all the tales when I was young (long time ago!!) The Knights of the Round Table - in fact I loved to read anything that was mythic - Greek, Roman, Viking, Irish, Scottish, English, Japanese, African… All! The adventures of King Arthur were engraved in my mind. The stories are fantastic!
JEAN-LOUIS JOSSIC FROM TRI YANN: As I am older than Alan (Simon), my first memory goes back right in the middle of the 50's, when I've watched in the cinema of my area Knights of the Round Table by Richard Thorpe, with this incredible story about sturdily built men trying to snatch a sword from a big stone in pasteboard. One has made less kitsch and more respectful toward the story, but what a cast!
