In March 1987 Freddie met Montserrat Caballe in Barcelona and gave her a cassettewith several of his new songs. These songs have made a strong impression on Caballe,and she even sang one of them at a concert in London at Covent Garden, to the surprise of Freddie Mercury. In early April 1987 Mercury and Caballe began work on a jointalbum. In late May, a music festival, where Mercury and Caballé were guests of honor.They performed at the festival song «Barcelona», which is dedicated to Freddie Mercury's hometown Caballe. October 8th, 1988 at the La Nit festival in Barcelona, ??held the second joint appearance of rock musician and opera divas - they performed three songs: «Golden Boy», «How Can I Go On» and «Barcelona». This performance was the last appearance of Freddie Mercury in front of an audience. By this time the artist was already seriously ill with AIDS. The album was released Barcelona October 10, 1988.The title track of the album, «Barcelona» became one of the anthems of the two Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992.
