Grateful Dead ( englisch für Dankbare Tote) war eine 1965 gegründete US-amerikanische Rockband aus San Francisco um den Frontmann Jerry Garcia, die eine wichtige Rolle in der US-amerikanischen Musikszene und Gegenkultur einnahm. Bekannt wurde Grateful Dead als eine der ersten Bands des Psychedelic Rocks und als Jamband mit annähernd 3000 Konzerten.

The Grateful Dead's second live album, released October 24, 1971. Although the eponymous album was published without a title, it is generally referred to as 'Skull and Roses' due to the iconic cover art by Alton Kelley. The band originally wanted to call the album 'Skull Fuck', but not surprisingly, Warner Brothers objected.
