Inanimus Theory – Unarmed Power (2012)
Inanimus Theory is a four-piece metal band from Suffolk that settled into its current guise in the autumn of 2010. 'Unarmed Power' is their recently released debut and the product of a band who "love to try and be creative and are not afraid to bring something new to the table".
The band is made up of Syz on vocals and rhythm guitar, Bidley on lead guitar, bassist Matt and drummer Gibby. With a look to match the aggressive riffs of their music, Syz told us that it is the live performances that the band really live for. "We write our songs with the live show in mind, not the studio. In other words, what you hear on the CD is what you're going to get live. We don't add effects to the album that we can't replicate on stage."
The 8-track CD opens with 'Braveheart' launching into an insanely powerful and drilling guitar riff which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Vicious and fierce, Inanimus Theory have turned up with an impressively forceful debut. But I still feel this is a band yet to reach their full potential, a band with a lot more left to give and many more steps on their journey.
The album clearly represents their love of live performance; there are no effects, no post-production additions; it's the music and them and you and nothing to buffer the confrontation. I think that if you get the chance, this is probably a band best enjoyed live.

Well, you get Inanimus Theory's "Unarmed Power". When it came to the NWOBHM, it was somewhat a collision of styles. It had the DIY ethic and catchiness of UK punk, with the soaring melodies, riffing and the red-blooded masculinity of the first few heavy metal bands such as Judas Priest and Deep Purple.
